Choosing what to do now...

Such a flurry of activity going down to the wire on the Olympic socks. I was left not really knowing what to do next.

Well, I'm not starting a new project, that's for sure. I've got a lot of UFOs to deal with. Socks for my husband in a really sweet feeling gray Silja fingering weight wool, bedsocks for myself in soft brushed alpaca (I'm afraid I'm not going to have enough yarn to finish the foot, so I may have a frog coming my way soon), and socks for my youngest in self-patterning Fortissima Colori. That's only three UFOs!

There are also two sweaters for me, a sweater for my youngest and two scarves which will probably find themselves converted to socks. It continually amazes me how focussed I am on sock-knitting nowadays. I hated doing them with DPNs but, now that I've learned how to do them with two circulars, I love knitting socks.

Isn't it funny that those of us who knit with 4 (sometimes 5) double points, cringe at the idea of knitting socks with two circulars? Seems un-natural....
By the way, I have to tell you that I lived west of Asheville, in Sylva,NC for a total of 10 years, so I'm very familiar with Asheville and miss it on occasion. My husband and I used to shop at Reader's Corner on Montford Ave. and eat at a little Mexican place near Memorial Mission Hospital. He was treated there off and on for a while. Anyway, nice to meet someone from that area. We've been talking about going back for a visit sometime. Any good yarn shops?;->

Well, I did give the DPNs a try. Started three different pairs of socks on them, finished one sock of one pair using them, then put it all away and broke out in hives whenever I came across them.

I got sick of the working yarn getting tangled in the resting needles. For some reason, holding my yarn in my right and knitting with all those little sticks just didn't work for me.

I was simply thrilled to realize that I will never have to use DPNs again! Not even for the fingers of gloves! Now I may even knit gloves one day... That was actually something I swore never to do in the days BCN (before circular needles). ;-)

Is that 4 yarn shops??? I have to do extra driving to say that we have two! Lucky, lucky, lucky....
Sorry to hear about the local flooding. Hard to imagine in a mountainous area like Asheville. I'll add you to my bloglines so I can stay current with your projects. Nice to meet you:)
